Unlike original film, Coming 2 America won’t be rated R

“Coming 2 America” has been  – unlike the original film, which received an R up in its release in 1988 – rated PG-13. Per the MPAA, the Eddie Murphy-starring sequel includes “crude and sexual content, language and drug content.”

Well, this…. I dunno how I.. I don’t quite know how I feel about it, to be honest. I guess, deep down, I was hoping for a hard-R but then, the original “Coming to America” has gone on to be such a ‘family’ fave in many-a-household that it probably wouldn’t have been right to alienate that audience by littering it with an excessive amount of cussing and ‘royal penis’ jokes.  And a PG-13 now isn’t the same as a PG-13 then, you can probably get away with a few F-words and whatnot now in them.

And those hoping for a hard-R Eddie Murphy will apparently be getting one in the form of the long-gestating “Beverly Hills Cop 4” at Netflix, which Murphy has promised will be as filthy and fun as the 1984 original.

The trailer was funny, so here’s hoping the film follows suit – “Coming 2 America” releases on Amazon Prime March 5.
