Vazquez tapped for Star Trek movie

Things seem to be heating up on the “Star Trek” front.

After putting the movie franchise on ice for a few years, Paramount would seem to have warmed up to the idea of getting the Enterprise back on screen sooner rather than later.

There have been a couple of “Star Trek” films in development in recent times – one that Quentin Tarantino crafted; another that would team Chris’s Pine and Hemsworth – but a new report suggests we mightn’t get either. Or maybe this one is first in line, and the others will come later.

According to Deadline, “Star Trek : Discovery” writer Kalinda Vazquez has hatched a blind deal for an original movie she hatched. The lass is a huge “Trek” fan apparently – even her name comes from a character that appeared on the second-season episode “By Any Other Name”.

The last “Trek” film, 2016’s “Star Trek Beyond” was a a great flick but didn’t make the kind of coin Paramount had expected, as such there’s been a bigger focus on the brand’s TV ventures.

Left to right: Zachary Quinto plays Spock, Sofia Boutella plays Jaylah and Karl Urban plays Bones in Star Trek Beyond from Paramount Pictures, Skydance, Bad Robot, Sneaky Shark and Perfect Storm Entertainment
