Venom 2 officially a go at Sony

Love it or hate it, “Venom” was a box office smash, so a sequel was pretty much predicted from the start – or the end-credits sequence. The ball is now officially rolling on said sequel, with Sony assigning Kelly Marcel – a screenwriter from the original film – to script-writing duties.

Marcel will also executive-produce the project, which will see Tom Hardy return as the titular antihero.

Per the Variety report, Michelle Williams is expected to rejoin Hardy, as is Woody Harrelson, who will portray Carnage in the sequel. A director has not been set yet, though sources say the studio might look for a new filmmaker as “Venom” helmer Reuben Fleischer will be busy shooting the sequel to Sony’s “Zombieland.” Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach and Amy Pascal will return as producers.

No release date has been set yet, but of course people are already speculating that Sony’s “untitled release” pencilled for October 2020 could potentially be “Venom 2”.
