Warners dates Matrix, Flash

Warner Bros has played with a few release dates this week, in turn finding leasing land for it’s new “Matrix” and “Flash” movies.

The former, a long-gestating “Justice League” spin-off featuring Ezra Miller, will bow July 1, 2022. The ostensibly long-suffering film, which has seen more than a few directors come and go, has had it’s start date pushed back quite a few times; the release date suggests the film is finally on track. Andy Muschietti, of “It” fame, is attached to direct the film, which supposedly lenses sometime in the new year.

Meanwhile, the untitled “Matrix” movie will open May 21, 2021 – the same date another Keanu Reeves-starring sequel, “John Wick Chapter 4” opens. The Lana Wachowski-directed sci-fi epic features the cast of the original three films swallowing red and blue pills with the likes of Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Neil Patrick Harris.

Warner also has the Taika Waititi-directed “Akira” – another film that’s been long in the works – on their schedule but it doesn’t have a locked-in date.

And last but not least, the “Mortal Kombat” reboot – currently lensing in Adelaide, Australia – has been moved up six weeks to Jan.15, 2021.
