Watts Promises to work with Cronenberg

Aussie actress joins Canadian’s latest

And she thought David Lynch was ‘special’. Just wait till she shares studio space with David Cronenberg – a new perspective on life, she will have, and then some. Remember to pack plenty of plugs, my dear.

Naomi Watts (“Mulholland Drive”) has joined Viggo Mortensen (reuniting with the director after their favourable teaming on “A History of Violence”) for “Eastern Promises” a new crime-flavoured drama, announced at Cannes, that’ll mark David Cronenberg’s next stint behind the lens.

In the film, a 14-year-old girl dies on Christmas giving birth in a London hospital. The hospital’s midwife (Watts) sets out to find the girl’s family for the orphaned child. Her search takes her to London’s shady Russian crime community and to a Russian crime boss (Mortensen) who is not what he seems.

Interestingly, the film was originally developed by the BBC, before being picked up by Focus Features.
