WB want more Matrix,Mad Max

While their main focus of late seems to be getting their wonky superhero slate right (and with “Aquaman”, there’s a glimmer of hope), Warner Bros are also planning to rob the vaults for some future coin.

In an interview over at The L.A Times, Warner Bros. CEO, Kevin Tsujihara, hinted at the inclusion of new “Mad Max” and “Matrix” films in the studio’s future – if they can get their skeets into place on those.

“We have incredible franchises on the features side such as The Matrix. We’d love to work with George Miller on furthering the Mad Max franchise,” he said.

Both “Mad Max : Fury Road”, released in 2015, and the now two-decades-old “Matrix” (1999) were bonza hits for the studio, so no surprise that they’d be keen to bring Max and Neo, respectively, back for more.

A fifth “Mad Max” – which director George Miller originally considered shooting back-to-back with “Fury Road” – and a fourth “Matrix” have been in the tinkering stage for a while.

Warners were confident their next big franchises laid in the “Fantastic Beasts” and “LEGO” movies but the newest instalments of those added little to Tsuijhara’s bank balance.

“The second film didn’t perform as well as the first, but I think we know what we need to do to get the third film hopefully even better than the first one,” he said of “Fantastic Beasts”. “And J.K. Rowling is really working hard now on that third script, and we’re going to get it right. She has an incredible vision of where she wants to go with this that is incredibly exciting.”

As for “The Lego Movie 2”, Tsuijhara is bewildered why it didn’t do much bigger biz.

“It didn’t do as well as tracking would’ve suggested, which was a little puzzling. The first movie was so fresh and so different. We need to continually rethink the experience, but the Lego brand is incredibly strong. On the game side, it’s been an incredible franchise.”
