Who’s playing Doctor Manhattan in Watchmen!?

Our friends at Geek Vibes Nation have the word on the ‘who is Yayha Abdul-Mateen II playing in Watchmen?’ question that’s been floated in the forums for a while.

According to the site, the HBO series has the “Aquaman” star playing none other than Dr. Manhattan!

For the unversed, Dr. Jonathan Osterman aka Doctor Manhattan is a nuclear physicist who in 1959 acquired superpowers after surviving being disintegrated in an Intrinsic Field Subtractor and reconstructing himself. Following his reanimation, he was immediately pressed into service by the United States government, who gave him the name Doctor Manhattan, after the Manhattan Project.

Billy Crudup played the part in Zack Snyder’s 2009 feature film version.

Interestingly enough, Abdul-Mateen’s character has been listed as ‘Cal Abraham’ thus far, suggesting he might be donning a fake name when we first meet him in the series.

Regina King, Jeremy Irons, Tim Blake Nelson, Don Johnson and Louis Gossett Jr are also part of the series, set to premiere in the fall.
