Wild at Heart series in the works!? Stab it and steer!

Umpteen years after a sequel was teased (you’ll recall that rumour, it had Chris Isaak pegged to take over the role of Sailor from Nicolas Cage), a follow-up to one of David Lynch’s cinematic highlights might finally be in the works.

This past weekend, Attendees of Lynch’s Festival of Disruption got wind of a new TV series based on Barry Gifford’s classic novel “Wild at Heart” – the literary offering that spawned Lynch’s acclaimed, award-winning 1990 movie.

According to the posts, Gifford himself announced the news at the festival, where he was participating in a Q&A for the film. Gifford wrote more than one yarn about Sailor and Lulu – so there’s more to their story that the film didn’t cover.

With Lynch’s in at Showtime, who he produced the latest season of “Twin Peaks” with – and potentially Netflix, who he has rumored to have met with in recent times – there’s a good chance he’s involved in the new series.

“Wild at Heart”, which Gifford also wrote the screenplay for, told of young lovers Sailor and Lula, played by Nicolas Cage and Laura Dern respectively, who run from the variety of weirdos that Lula’s mom (Diane Ladd) has hired to kill Sailor. The movie won the Palme d’Or, the highest honor, at the Cannes Film Festival in 1990.

Thanks ‘Amanda’ for the lead! You have us excited too!
