While Margot Robbie will be back to yield her splintery choice of weapon, “Suicide Squad” co-star Will Smith won’t be returning for James Gunn’s follow-up.
It’s sounding more and more like Robbie’s Harley Quinn will be the only carry-over onto Gunn’s reboot with confirmation today that Smith’s Deadshot will not feature this time around. The “Bad Boys For Life” star had discussed reprising his role for the film but scheduling got in the way – whether that means his role will be recast for the new film or simply left out of proceedings is unclear.
Smith and Robbie’s Deadshot and Harley Quinn, respectively, featured in 2016’s “Suicide Squad”. That film also featured the likes of El Diablo (Jay Hernandez), Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), Enchantress (Cara Delevingne), and Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney), none of whom are expected to return for seconds.
“The Suicide Squad”, which is seen as somewhat of a soft relaunch of the movie franchise, and will largely feature new characters, hits screens August 6, 2021.
Meanwhile, Robbie’s Harley Quinn can be seen in Cathy Yan’s ‘’Birds of Prey’’ which is slated to open a year earlier, on Feb. 7, 2020.
50-year-old Smith next appears in the third instalment of “Bad Boys” – a film, he joked this week, will be littered with course language.
