Without Remorse looks to bypass theaters, may premiere on Amazon Prime

No doubt the result of the ongoing pandemic, Paramount looks to sell off its Michael B.Jordan starrer “Without Remorse” to Amazon Studios.

According to Variety, the streamer is in final negotiations to nab the worldwide rights to the film, the adaptation of the Tom Clancy novel of the same name. “Creed” and “Friday Night Lights” alum Jordan plays U.S. Navy SEAL John Clark in the film.

Amazon already airs “Jack Ryan”, based on the Clancy-created character, so “Remose” might be a snug fit on the streamer.

Per the trade, the Stefano Sollima-directed actioner would premiere on Amazon Prime.

“Without Remorse” had been scheduled for theatrical release but with most theaters still closed, and the pandemic no sooner to ending than last guestimate, no surprise Paramount are considering alternative options for the release.

The book on which the flick is based upon, by acclaimed author Tom Clancy (“The Hunt for Red October”, “Patriot Games”), fixes on John Clark, played in the film by “Creed” star Michael B. Jordan, a Navy SEAL-turned-CIA ops officer, who seeks revenge after his girlfriend is killed by a Baltimore drug lord.

Clark, the character introduced in best-selling novel “Cardinal of the Kremlin”, and previously played on film by Willem Dafoe (1994’s ”Clear and Present Danger”, opposite Harrison Ford as Jack Ryan) and Liev Schreiber (2002’s ”The Sum of All Fears”, opposite Ben Affleck), was previously skedded to make his theatrical return on September 18.

Jordan, the “Friday Night Nights” alum who went on to claim fame in the likes of “Creed” and “Black Panther”, scored the role after a couple of previous attempt sto bring the Clancy-written yard to the screen in was abandoned. An incarnation in 1995 had Keanu Reeves set to play the merc, with Laurence Fishburne and Gary Sinise attached in supporting roles. John Milius, of “Conan” fame, was attached to direct.

In 2012, Christopher McQuarrie was tapped to direct the film, with Tom Hardy set to play Clark.

“Collateral” scribe Stuart Beattie, who was working on a version of the film back at the start of the decade, told Moviehole it was “the hardest adaptation I’ve ever done. It’s a 700 page book with stories that run consecutively but haven’t nothing to do with each other – until page 699. You can’t do that in a movie, so to make that work, and to make it modern-day, I had to work hard.”

Though Chris Pine-starrer “Jack Ryan : Shadow Recruit” was designed to be a launchpad for a new series of movies- in turn, if it were successful co-star Kevin Costner would’ve reprised his role for “Without Remorse” – it’s performance at the box office, and throttling by critics saw Paramount press the reset button on the Clancy movie universe.

Stefano Sollima directs “Without Remorse”, which also stars Jamie Bell, Jodie Turner-Smith, Luke Mitchell, Jacon Scipio, Jack Kesy, Cam Gigandet and Todd Lasance.
