Wrong Turn next horror original to be remade

Not surprisingly, considering Hollywood’s unyielding woody for recycling, Constatin Film have announced plans to start from scratch on the popular “Wrong Turn” series.

The original, released in 2003, starred Eliza Dushku as a young woman who, alongside her not-as-clever pals, do battle with some flesh-eating hillbillies. With original creator Alan McElroy (“Halloween 4”) on scripting duties, expect a similar yarn to the original.

Deadline, who broke the news on the redux, says the update is “a timely and topical meditation on society and its issues. A cross-country hiking expedition puts a group of friends in the land of an inclusive society, where they soon discover they are under a different rule of law, and may not be the victims they thought they were.”

With the advances in technology since the original, one imagines social media and other apps will play a bigger part in this incarnation.

Constantin Film’s Robert Kulzer will produce, and Martin Moszkowicz will executive produce.

Producer Robert Kulzer said, “Alan’s re -interpretation of his own work and Mike’s vision are a frightening reflection of our world today: one person’s American dream is another’s worst nightmare.”

Mike P. Nelson (“The Domestics”) will direct the reboot, which follows six “Wrong Turn” sequels and a pair of ‘Saw-Tooth’ edible undies. Or not.
