Previously rumored, though never confirmed, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (“Candyman”) has confirmed that he is indeed playing Morpheous – previously played by Laurence Fishburne in the original trilogy – in “The Matrix Resurrections”.
On Instagram today, the versatile thesp confirmed he’s taking over the mentor role in the reboot.
Fishburne had said previously he was never asked to reprise his role in the Lana Wachowski directed film, which begs such questions as ‘was he recast for financial reasons’? and ‘did Wachowski want a current ‘it’ actor in the film instead?’.
“The Matrix Resurrections”, the trailer of which was released earlier today, is currently skedded to arrive in cinemas this Jan.
