Young actors vying for ‘Son of Goose’ role in Top Gun 2

Several young guns are vying for the ‘son of Goose’ role in Paramount’s “Top Gun” sequel.

Goose, played by Anthony Edwards, was the ‘heart’ of Tony Scott’s 1986 film. He was killed in a flying accident, dying in the arms of wingman Maverick (Tom Cruise).
Meg Ryan played Goose’s wife, widowed with a young son.

According to Heat Vision, a number of young actors have been testing for the role of the grown-up son for the past few weeks – including Dylan O’Brien and Austin Butler, who are said to be no longer in the running.

Those who’ve gotten through to the final round include “X-Men” alum Nicholas Hoult, “Hidden Figures” star Glen Powell and the always-busy Miles Teller (“Thank You For Your Service”, “Divergent”).

The final round of testing took place earlier this week in Clearwater, Fla., where Cruise lives and is prepping to launch his press tour for ‘’Mission: Impossible – Fallout’’, says the trade.

“Top Gun : Maverick”, which Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer are the only confirmed cast members of so far, is shooting under the direction of Joseph Kosinski.
