Tim Allen doesn’t exactly make the most fabulous of films – his range seems to be limited to a grunt; dog-suit/Santa suit, or physically-damaging self infliction – but his latest, “Zoom”, makes the rest well, look like films you might actually pay to see on video (if even just on discount day).

Based on a popular (can’t be too popular, I’ve never heard of it) kiddies book, the lacklustre comedy/adventure/90-minute commercial for the Sony music catalogue (there seemed to be a top ten hit played every 5 minutes in the movie) is essentially “Sky High” all over again – only less entertaining. Allen plays the veteran superhero recruited to assemble a bunch of kids with ‘special powers’ – the one that can turn invisible; the one that can make himself big et al – so that they can take down a new enemy.

This is a shambles. There’s no script (apparently Adam Rifkin did the first draft, but it now resembles nothing he wrote); the performances are as weak as well, a Chevy Chase movie (funnily enough, Chevy appears here too!); and the special effects look worse than the dailies on “Superman IV : The Quest for Peace”.

Thank god “Wild Hogs” came along when it did eh Tim? SAG might’ve asked for your membership card back.
