Affleck takes Paycheck to do this surprise sequel?

Universal

In ‘take it with a grain of salt until the trades confirm’ news, oft-reliable insider Daniel RPK reports a rumor that Ben Affleck is in talks to star in and produce a sequel to his crafty 2003 film Paycheck.

Written by Dean Georgaris, and based on Philip K.Dick’s excellent 1953 short stoy of the same name, the film adaptation saw Affleck play Michael, a reverse engineer, who is pursued by policemen on charges of murder and treason. Suffering from amnesia, he is forced to piece together his past while on the run.

Uma Thurman, Aaron Eckhart, Paul Giamatti, Michael C. Hall, Joe Morton, and Colm Feore also starred in the John Woo-directed pic, which garnered negative reviews but was a commercial success, grossing $117.2 million on a $60 million budget.

Did Paycheck really call for a sequel? Wouldn’t have thought so but hey, maybe Universal are bankrolling a film the Air helmer wants to direct in exchange for doing the follow-up to the film!? (if anything, would’ve thought a Paycheck 2, featuring a lesser-known actor, might’ve been something better suited to Universal’s Home Entertainment division).
