Murphy, Hart for new 48 Hours sequel!?

It would be made for a streamer

With Coming 2 America chalking up some stout figures for Amazon, and Beverly Hills Cop : Axel F one of the most anticipated flicks on the Netflix sked for the next twelve months, it shouldn’t be any surprise to hear that Eddie Murphy is also looking to dust off another of his popular characters – albeit, without his usual sidekick.

Murphy and Coming 2 America director Craig Brewer are said to be hatching a new 48 Hours sequel for Amazon – but it won’t be Murphy’s Reggie Hammond teamed with Nick Nolte’s Jack Cates, by sounds.

Recently rumored over at Giant Freakin Robot, the Murphy-Brewer conceived “48 Hours 3” will see the Dreamgirls actor teaming with streaming staple Kevin Hart, who’ll also co-produce.

Nolte had an idea for a third 48 Hours at one stage. In 2022, the Prince of Tides actor told CNN that “I wanted to be busted out after being thrown off the force, and Eddie [would] get out of prison, and he has got to figure out who has set me up.”

Neither Paramount or series director Walter Hill – who told Moviehole about a decade ago he had no interest in returning to that franchise – were interested at that stage.
