Ghostbusters (2016) director Paul Feig has John Cena, Awkwafina, and Simu Liu starring in his Prime Video action comedy Grand Death Lotto. Production begins next week on the pic set in a financially stricken California in the near future where residents are allowed to kill the winner of the state’s lottery before sundown in order to claim the prize. A film adaptation of the video game Dead by Daylight is in the works from Blumhouse and Atomic Monster. “We couldn’t be more thrilled to work with Jason Blum and James Wan, two giants of the horror film industry, to further expand the Dead by Daylight universe,” said Stephen Mulrooney, Behaviour Interactive’s executive vice president. “At Behaviour, our motto is to create unique moments, together, forever. The first photo of Ben Affleck in Robert Rodriguez’s Hypnotic has been released. The Argo director and star plays a detective looking for the culprit in a series of puzzling crimes while searching for his missing daughter, her disappearance tied to a secret government program. Alice Braga, JD Pardo, Dayo Okeniyi, Jeff Fahey, Jackie Earle Haley, and William Fichtner also star in the film, which will premiered at SXSW.
Jack Kesy (Death Wish) will play the comic book hero in the new Hellboy prequel, The Crooked Man. The Millennium Media project is set in the 1950s and finds Hellboy stranded in rural Appalachia. Hellboy and a rookie agent at BPRD (the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense, which is central to the Hellboy mythos) discover a small community haunted by witches, led by a local devil with a troubling connection to Hellboy’s past: the Crooked Man. Paramount+ today announced that one of the service’s longest-running original drama series “Star Trek Discovery” will conclude with its upcoming fifth season in early 2024. The series first premiered in 2017 and heralded the return of scripted “Star Trek” television series. Leading up to the final season, Paramount+ will honor the “Discovery” legacy and groundbreaking storytelling over its last four seasons with year-long celebrations and appearances at key events in markets around the world.
