CinemaCon : Coming to America Too footage hits!

Paramount surprised attendees of this year’s CinemaCon in Vegas today with a scene from the upcoming “Coming to America” sequel reuniting Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall.

Screened as part of a sizzle reel featuring Paramount’s upcoming fare – which also includes “Top Gun : Maverick” and a “G.I Joe” reboot – the short glimpse offer those in the audience (who understandably went wild for it) the kind of official confirmation they’ve been beseeching regarding the heavily-rumoured sequel.

The brief bit mainly offered a look at Murphy and Hall in costume, so not much to write home about, but it was enough to whip fans into a frenzy.

Kenya Barris’s “Coming to America Too” script sees Akeem (Murphy) learning about a long-lost son and returning to America to meet his unlikely heir to the throne of Zamunda.

Apparently many of the original characters from John Landis’s 1988 original will return as well, including Arsenio Hall as Akeem’s assistant Seemi, Shar Headley, whom Akeem found in New York, John Amos, who played her father, and James Earl Jones, who depicted Akeem’s father the king.

“After many years of anticipation, I’m thrilled that Coming to America 2 is officially moving forward”, Murphy said in a statement. “We’ve assembled a great team that will be led by Craig Brewer, who just did an amazing job on Dolemite, and I’m looking forward to bringing all these classic and beloved characters back to the big screen.”

“Coming to America Too” hits theaters August 7, 2020
