Gladiator 2 cast revealed ahead of May shoot

The long-gestating sequel will not star Russell Crowe

Universal Pictures

The long-gestating Gladiator sequel – which at one stage Nick Cave had written a treatment for, one in which Russell Crowe’s Maximus would’ve returned as a ghost (!) – is back on, with several players from the 2000 original returning. As previously reported, director Ridley Scott is back at the helm and has announced it’ll be his next film.

According to Daniel RPK, filming on Gladiator 2 will kick off in May in the UK, and Gladiator’s Connie Nielsen and Djimon Hounsou will reprise their roles as Lucilla, sister to the emperor, and Numidan hunter Juba respectively, in the pic.

The movie will focus on a now adult Lucius, the son of Roman Empress Lucilla (Nielsen) and Lucius Verus.
