Is a Heir to the Empire film in the works at Lucasfilm!?

One of the earliest, most popular books in the Star Wars literary universe

Marvel

One of the earliest, most popular books in the Star Wars literary universe was Timothy Zahn’s Heir to the Empire.

In the book, set in 9 ABY, five years after Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi, the last of the Emperor’s warlords—the brilliant and deadly Grand Admiral Thrawn—has taken command of the shattered Imperial fleet, readied it for war, and pointed it at the fragile heart of the New Republic. Film staples Princess Leia, Han Solo and Luke Skywalker factor into the story.

Now, per SFFGazette, the recently announced Star Wars feature film that Dave Filoni is attached to direct will bear that exact same title.

Star Wars : Heir to the Empire.

Interesting.

It’s heavily suggested that the upcoming Star Wars series over at Disney Plus, Ahsoka will see Rosario Dawson’s former Jedi going up against the villainous Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen).

It would seem then that the Heir to the Empire movie will indeed follow the events of the book – likely set up first in the Ahsoka series – even if it swaps out the characters of Luke, Han and Leia (unless they recast?) with other rogue heroes.

The Star Wars film – or Heir to the Empire as the rumor says it’s called – will be produced by Mandalorian alum Jon Favreau.
