Forget those unyielding Patrick Dempsey rumours, leakage now has actor and writer Justin Theroux (“Tropic Thunder”) pegged as the frontrunner to play Marvel’s “Dr Strange”, in the long-gestating film of the same name.
Theroux, known for his roles in such flicks as “Mulholland Drive”, “Charlie’s Angels : Full Throttle” and “Wanderlust”, is reportedly an actor Marvel are considering for Stephen Strange’s big-screen debut, according to CHUD.
“There’s no word on whether or not he is the only name being looked at for the part of Stephen Strange,” the sources writes, “but I am told that there is a strong interest over at the House of Lee in seeing [Theroux] become the Sorcerer Supreme.”
Theroux has a couple of links to the Marvel world; he’s good friends with Robert Downey Jr, who he worked with on “Tropic Thunder”, but more so, he wrote “Iron Man 2” – at the bequest of Downey.
The multi-talented Washington-born Theroux is currently writing “Zoolander 2”.
