Mel Gibson to direct Mark Wahlberg in Lionsgate’s Flight Risk

The duo previously colloborated on 2022 hit ‘Father Stu’

Mel Gibson, possibly one step closer to getting that Lethal Weapon 5 (which he’s attached to direct as well as return to co-star with Danny Glover in) deal done at WBD, has been signed to direct Mark Wahlberg in action-thriller Flight Risk for Lionsgate.

Gibson steps back into the director’s chair for the first time since 2016’s Hacksaw Ridge.

The film will see Wahlberg, who co-starred opposite Gibson in Daddy’s Home 2 and Father Stu, play a pilot transporting a dangerous criminal for trial. Additional casting is underway. Pic is based on Jared Rosenberg’s 2020 Blacklist script.

“We love the undeniable electric pairing of Mel Gibson and Mark Wahlberg,” said Lionsgate movie chairman Joe Drake. “These world-class talents combining for this dynamic, character-driven film will make Flight Risk one of the most suspense-filled, must-see events of the year.”
