New Star Wars film coming with Taika Waititi directing

Disney and LucasFilm have confirmed that a new “Star Wars” feature film is on the horizon – and that “Thor: Ragnarok” director Taika Waititi will take the reigns on directing!

In the “Star Wars” realm, Waititi recently directed the first season finale of “The Mandalorian on Disney+.

Waititi is also set to co-write the script alongside Krysty Wilson-Cairns (“1917”, “Last Night in Soho”). News of this assignment comes direct from the Star Wars Website.

Further Disney+ news on the announcement also add that writer Leslye Headland (“Russian Doll”, “Bachelorette”) is currently developing a new untitled “Star Wars” series for Disney+. Headland will write, executive produce, and serve as showrunner for the series.
This series will join the three other Disney+ “Star Wars” tales: “The Mandalorian”, one series based on Cassian Andor’s life prior to the events of “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”, and another following the adventures of Obi-Wan Kenobi between “Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith” and “Star Wars: A New Hope”.

No release dates for either project have been announced but stay tuned!
