Nine Star Wars films in the works; Next Transformers spin-off greenlit

In science-fiction franchise news, Disney are rumoured to be developing as many as nine new “Star Wars” movies, while reports suggest the latest “Transformers” spin-off “Bumblebee” could be followed by a standalone “Optimus Prime” movie.

Appearing at All Star Comic Con this weekend, voice actor Tom Kane (Yoda in “The Clone Wars”) revealed that there’s nine new “Star Wars” movies in total – including Rian Johnson’s upcoming trilogy – are on the way.

Meanwhile, EW reports that if “Bumblebee” is a success, the next “Transformers” character to get their own solo flick will be Optimus Prime.

Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura says, “.. if Bumblebee turns out to be something fans enjoy, then Optimus Prime is the next best candidate for a spin-off. I’d certainly like to do that. It would be a very different kind of movie than a Bumblebee movie, but equally interesting and different. If Bee’s successful, we can have a Bee 2, no doubt.”
