“Spider-Man” helmer teams with Verigo, Nthibah and Hammerstone to produce adaptation

Searchlight Pictures

Raimi Productions, Vertigo Entertainment, Nthibah Pictures and Hammerstone Studios have joined forces to produce “Boy Kills World”.

The film’s director, Moritz Mohr (Akumi), created a detailed previsualization of the film’s inventive cinematic approach, which caught the attention of Sam Raimi (Spiderman Trilogy, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness) and Roy Lee (IT and IT Chapter 2). Mohr and Arend Remmers (TV Series Sløborn) created a rich and detailed world around their story of one character’s relentless quest for just vengeance. Remmers and Tyler Burton Smith (Kung Fury: The Movie) penned the script.  CAA Media Finance will represent domestic rights and arranged the project’s financing with Simon Swart and Wayne Fitzjohn of Nthibah Pictures (Redeeming Love) and Alex Lebovici of Hammerstone Studios (Bill and Ted Face the Music).  Zainab Azizi of Raimi Productions, Stuart Manashil of Novo, Dan Kagan, Andrew Childs of Vertigo Entertainment  and Reza Brojerdi of Ventaro Film are also producers.  Casting is in progress with Nancy Nayor Casting, with production to take place in South Africa.

Key cast in place includes Bill Skarsgård (Deadpool 2, It Chapter Two) in the title role of “Boy,” Samara Weaving (Ready or Not, Bill and Ted Face the Music) as assassin “June 27” and martial arts master Yayan Ruhian (John Wick 3, The Raid: Redemption) as Boy’s mentor “Shaman.”

Said Raimi “I am thrilled to be partnering up again with Roy Lee on Moritz Mohr’s Boy Kills World. Moritz has a brilliant sense for action, humor, and world building that I just cannot wait for the world to see. We are excited to be collaborating with Nthibah and Hammerstone to bring Moritz’s unique film to life.”

Added Simon Swart, CEO of Nthibah Pictures, “Boy Kills World is set in a distinct dystopian world, combining real world themes with a stylized look that is fresh, cool and original, borrowing from the best of graphic novels.  With a script that combines wild innovative action sequences, a sense of humor and a lot of crazy, this film has the potential to be a worldwide hit and potential franchise property.”

Mohr started working in a small video rental store as a teenager where he fell in love with cinema. He began making short films that impressed and led to him attending the prestigious Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg (film academy) where he produced the acclaimed short Akumi, which was given the German national cinematography and editing award. Moritz moved to Los Angeles to attend the UCLA filmmakers’ program which led to him becoming an in demand commercial director. In 2018 he wrote, produced, and directed the Boy Kills World short.

Boy Kills World is a one-of-a-kind action spectacle set in a dystopian fever dream reality. BOY is a deaf mute with a vibrant imagination. When his family is murdered, BOY escapes to the jungle and is trained by a mysterious shaman to repress his childish imagination and become an instrument of death.
