Seann William Scott is the new Lethal Weapon

Seann William Scott, best known for his role in the “American Pie” series, has joined FOX’s “Lethal Weapon” – just in time to see the action series renewed for a third season.

Scott, seen recently in “Super Troopers 2” and “Goon : Last of the Enforcers”, will play a new character (rumored to be Martin Riggs’ brother) on the hour actioner. The 41-year-old actor replaces Clayne Crawford, who has been ousted from the series following complaints of his on-set behavior.

“Lethal Weapon” does well for Fox – averaging a 1.7 rating in adults 18-49 in Live+7 – so it was a given the show would be renewed… if they could quickly find a new co-lead. And act quickly they did – Scott was sworn in after meeting with co-star Damon Wayans on the weekend.

“Seann is a fantastic addition to this already amazing cast,” said Michael Thorn, president of entertainment of Fox Broadcasting. “’Lethal Weapon’ is packed with action, drama and pure fun and we can’t wait to see Damon and Seann together on screen. Matt Miller, his incredible team and everyone at Warner Bros. have been tremendous partners, and we’re thrilled to bring this show back for another season.”

Crawford, and his co-stars, have been pretty vocal on Twitter about the actor’s exit.

For many, there is no “Lethal Weapon” without Clayne Crawford – and fair enough, the guy was damn good in it! – and the actor’s many followers took to Twitter to voice their disgust on his axing.
