We reported yesterday that actor Owen Teague has been tapped to headline Wes Ball’s Planet of the Apes reboot, confirmed (Moviehole exclusively reported the streaming platform’s plan for the franchise) to premiere on Disney+.

The pic, officially titled Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, will likely please both fans of the recent Apes movies and sci-fi fans in general.

What wasn’t known at the time was whether the film would share any connection with the previous films. If new casting sides, obtained by Daniel RPK, are anything to go by, then it will indeed take place after the events of War for the Planet of the Apes.

The film is set years down the track, after the demise of OG ape lord Caesar, and will seemingly fix on a charismatic and shrewd leader who plans to unite all apes under his authoritative leadership by perverting the word of Caesar. It’s likely that Teague is playing the role of ‘Proximus Caesar’.

“Proximus knows that the key to maintaining his one-ape rule is by seizing and mastering the technolo9y left behind by the humans, and he hopes that Mae and Noa will help him crack the treasure trove that is sealed in an underground silo”.

Other characters include the previously mentioned Noa, an impressionable young Chimpanzee on the verge of adulthood, and nasty Sylva, a male gorilla general.
