Sweet Home Alabama 2 : If you build it, they will come

Not the first time I’ve heard this, but don’t let that be gospel (I hear many things – some are simply crazy voices encouraging me to lick ice from windshield wipers on winter mornings), nevertheless there’s more chatter of a sequel to fluffy Reese Witherspoon (the film is fluffy, Reese isn’t) comedy “Sweet Home Alabama”.

Josh Lucas, who played the love interest in that one, suggested the tardy follow-up (the original was released in 2001) has been pitched.

The “Hulk” villain said on ABC’s Good Morning America that he and director Andy Tennant have spoken about a sequel “extensively” and are “lobbying for the world to join us.”

The pitch might make the missus sniffle though.

“The proposal that Andy Tennant, the director, had which was quite interesting was that my character is back in Alabama, and Reese is actually, her character is in New York with our kids,” Lucas explained. “We’re divorced. So the whole life is super complicated.”

According top Dempsey, Patrick Dempsey’s character is involved in the sequel scenario.

Interesting that Witherspoon, one of the biggest box-office draws a decade or so ago, is now trying to get a sequel to this and “Legally Blonde” moving? Suppose everyone is entitled to skip on gambling now and then. Or is it out of her hands? is Reese’s pursuit of sequels more to do with Hollywood’s ridiculous belief that actresses over forty shouldn’t no longer carry original films? Likely something to do with it. In their mind, I imagine it’s less risky casting her in sequels to her “big hits”. Dicks.

Go get some money Reese. Big revenge against those knobs.
