Tom Hanks to play another toy, Major Matt Mason!

A long-gestating film based on the Mattel toy property Major Matt Mason, looks to be inching forward with “Toy Story” alum Tom Hanks and Aviva Goldsman attached as star and writer, respectively.

The film, set up at Paramount Pictures, is based on a toy astronaut who lives and works on the moon. The character was especially popular in the ’60s because of America’s race to the moon at the time.

Goldsman, who worked with Hanks on “The Da Vinci Code” and “Angels & Demons,” will adapt the script from a short story about the character from Pulitzer Prize winner Michael Chabon.

“Forrest Gump” director Robert Zemeckis attempted for several years to get a Major Matt film off the ground.

Hanks is currently in Toronto promoting his Fred Rogers film “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood”.
