15 Things we learnt this week

with Special Guest Director – Adam Weeks!

Alright, another week down, it’s time to do a little dance, make a little love, and offer up some reflection on the events of the last 7 days. Clint’s off livin’ the high life for the next few days, so in the words of Renee Zelwegger in “Cold Mountain”…. “If you need help, here I am!”

1 : That yes indeed, “Sin City” will not be hitting Australian screens until August. Yup, that’s right, a movie starring Bruce Willis, Benicio Del Toro, Jessica Alba, Clive Owen, Mickey Rourke, Elijah Wood, Josh Hartnett and a couple hundred others, a movie that was number one at the box-office it’s first week out the gate, and a movie that has gotten audiences cheering for the trailer alone can’t get any love from the local distributor. Clint’s seen it, everyone in the U.S. has seen it…… why can’t we!!!!!!!

2 : We’ve continued to learn that James Marsters is one lovable fella. It seems that every monkey lovin’ man & woman under the sun cannot wait for this proposed “Spike” telemovie to happen. Perhaps when James, Anthony Stewart Head & David Fury are in Melbourne this July for a “Buffy” convention (check out Tabula Rasa for details), the everlovin’ Mr. Morris might be able to weave his magic and get some good inside gossip from them……

3 : That Nicole Richie doesn’t wanna live “The Simple Life” anymore. According to famous home video “nodder”, Paris Hilton, it’s all true that Kimberly Stewart is lining up for the next series, and as she told US Weekly, “I will not go into the details of what happened. All I will say is that Nicole knows what she did.” What’s that Paris? Learn not to speak with her mouth full?

4 : We now know that THE most electrifying man in sports entertainment history, Mr. Dwayne Johnson, AKA The Rock has officially hit the rank of THE most electrifying man in Hollywood. He’s teaming up with “The Rundown / Welcome To The Jungle” co-star Sean William Scott, and the decidedly cute young thing Sarah Michelle Gellar (as a porn star…. Yes!) in “Southland Tales”. What do you think of it?……. IT DOESN’T MATTER WHAT YOU THINK!

5 : That there’s always room for a little more Hoff in the world. The slow runnin’, chest barin’, babe getting’ main man himself, David Hasselhoff is in Adam Sandler’s next flick starring alongside Christopher Walken & Kate Beckinsale. Say what you will, but Hoff is the man!

6 : That Benjamin McKenzie, the dude that isn’t Adam Brody on “The O.C.” is getting a shot at working with Samuel L. Jackson in the upcoming “Pacific Air 121”. It’s about a crate full of deadly snakes being let loose on a flight in order to kill a witness in an upcoming trial. I would wager from the plot that Ben is also about to witness his first direct to video appearance at the same time.

7 : That even though “Cursed”, the Wes Craven / Kevin Williamson flick about naughty Werewolves is still listed as “Coming Soon” to Australian screens, we’ve heard that that’s probably not on the cards. Make yourself a safe bet….. “Cursed” is going straight to video in the land down under.

8 : That despite some pretty rubbish reviews (including one from head honcho Clint), “The Amityville Horror” remake with Ryan Reynolds and the very tasty Melissa George has gone number 1 in a big way this past week. I liked it, Clint didn’t. Who’s right here? Me, dammit. I’m runnin’ the show today, so check it out when you’ve got a spare couple of hours.

9 : That “Lost” continues to be, in my book, the most compelling hour of viewing on the telly at the moment. It’s great to see that Channel 7 have hyped the living crap out of this show on the TV, and it is truly deserved…. But seeing as how I’ve got my say today….. Where the hell is “Alias”, “24” & new “That 70’s Show” ya bastards!

10 : That Wesley Snipes is a massive tosser. If you haven’t heard it yet, this jackass has just filed a lawsuit against David Goyer & New Line Cinema basically because he was shown up by Ryan Reynolds & Jessica Biel in “Blade: Trinity”, saying that they were “forced onto him” despite his wishes. I’ve got a hot tip for you Wes…. You’re not the Writer, you’re not the Director, you’re not running New Line. Don’t take a film just to get a paycheque, sleep walk your way through it and then run to a lawyer when you realise that people didn’t worship you at the end of it. If the critics and fans are to be believed, you were shown up in that movie because you didn’t give a s*it. Go back to straight to video for your career choices.

11 : That the Australian networks have got to start putting the good shows on at decent times. “The Shield”? Midnight at the earliest. “The Wire”? Midnight. “Scrubs”? “Arrested Development”? “The Apprentice”? 11:00pm, 11:30pm, 10:30pm. C’mon guys! I understand the need to have home grown talent whenever we can, but when the stuff you’re producing is absolute crap, it’s time to shake it up a bit and offer up the imports.

12 : That despite no-one bringing Mark Frost’s excellent mystery novel “The List Of 7” to the big screen, “The Da Vinci Code” continues to build up an incredible cast under the watchful eye of Director, Ron Howard. This last week alone, Alfred Molina & Sir Ian McKellen have signed to team up with Tom Hanks & Audrey Tautou. Perhaps while they’re solving mysteries, they can find out why I’m not in the process of “comforting” Jennifer Aniston right now.

13 : Some short & sweet quick picks, I agree whole-heartedly with Clint, “In Good Company” is a fantastic movie that is simply the best thing I’ve seen on the big screen this year, and secondly, after just watching “The Wire: Season 1” on DVD (review comin’ at ya soon), if you haven’t yet seen the show, haven’t heard anything about it or you’re walking past it at your local shop, I cannot advise you strongly enough to pick it up. THE best crime & investigation show that I think I have ever seen.

14 : That despite the fears, Brandon Routh could not look the part of Clark Kent any less. All the naysayers out there have got to learn that if Bryan Singer is on board a “Superman” film, you have got to let him do his thang.

15 : That you guys out there, the loyal fans who come back on a daily basis to read the latest news, the personal thoughts and opinions of Clint, Pete, myself and all of the other guys & girls writing alongside of us deserve a big round of applause. We simply couldn’t keep doing it without you all, so as witnessed by the growing love that’s shown in the weekly Mailbag, and on behalf of all of us at Moviehole…. Thanks!
