A continuation of Picard could be in the stars

“I think we could absolutely continue to tell stories about individual characters that are set up on the show”.

With “Star Trek : Picard” winding down, and fans over the moon with the current season, no surprise to hear that the show’s producers might be eyeing some kind of continuation of the series.

The overseer of the brand, Alex Kurtzman tells SFX Magazine that they’ve discussed spinning-off some of the characters on the show in a shorter, mini-series.

“Individual characters – I think we could absolutely continue to tell stories about individual characters that are set up on the show [Picard] in other contexts. That’s the beauty of having a universe now is that, in a perfect world, we’re not just doing seasons of television, we’re doing event series, we’re doing single events that could be two, three hours long. I think that we are now at a place where that’s really possible.”

“Picard” showrunnerTerry Matalas is equally confident “Picard” could continue after this season  – and potentially by spinning characters off into a series that’s been flirted titled “Star Trek: Legacy”. At one stage, “Star Trek : Voyager” star Kate Mulgrew was rumoured to be involved, reprising the role of Kathryn Janeway.

“[W]e have plans for new things… there’s quite a few plans, and you’ll hear about them soon. We will continue to expand the Star Trek universe, absolutely. I can tell you that we’re still very excited about Section 31. And that’s all I will say.”
