A Nicer, Gentler Marine

Seems WWE Films are looking to break out of the testosterone-filled action genre, announcing today their first PG-rated family drama.

Oh, but the shingle’s investors not be concerned! John Cena, WWE Films’ label staple, will have a role here…

….. but he’ll be joined by some credible talent in Patricia Clarkson, Danny Glover (after “2012”, maybe ‘credible’ isn’t the right word for Sir Glover) and “Californication” cutie Madeline Zima.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Mel Damski (“Mischief”)-directed pic tells of a teenage boy (Devon Graye) who tries to reunite his mother (Clarkson) and estranged older brother (Cena) 10 years after the death of their father, a state college wrestling legend. A brilliant student with no apparent athletic talents, the teenager decides to join the high school wrestling team as a way to pull the family together.

The pic, which the trade says may undergone a title change (“The Marine 3 : Blood Brothers” perhaps!?), is currently lensing in budget-friendly New Orleans.
