A Panda Show in 3D

Look, “Kung-Fu Panda” was OK, but was it the second-coming-of-a-cartoon-Jesus? no. Not at all. It was simply an entertaining but forgettable excuse for Dreamworks to use Jack Black in a toon before Disney did. For all intents and purposes, it was “Beverly Hills Ninja : The Animated Series”. Yes, it worked – – – but mostly because of Black, not because of the ingenious storyline or gut-busting laughs. Don’t recall finding either in it.

I still think the kids movies today aren’t a shade on those that I grew up on – flicks like “Secret of NIMH”, “The NeverEnding Story” and “Charlotte’s Web”. Heck, even a film like “Teen Wolf” – considered an out-and-out piece of shit by the critical community – would’ve entertained me more than “Panda” or the last “Shrek” movie. At least it wasn’t as concerned about entertaining its audience as it was selling dolls.

But I digress… The Hollywood Reporter has announced the inevitable sequel – and not surprisingly, considering Jeffrey Katzenberg’s hard-on for it, it’ll be in 3-D. Black and Angelina Jolie are returning.

Excited kids!?
