Former “Arrested Development†star Alia Shawkat (who played Mae “Maeby” Funke on the eternally beloved sitcom) has joined the cast of “The Runawaysâ€, according to our friends at Latino Review.
Shawkat will play 18-year-old bass player ‘Robin’ in the pic, which retraces the journey of all-girl band The Runaways, led by Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett.
Thing is, there was never a Robin in The Runaways. The original bass guitarist was Micki Steele (later of ‘The Bangles’). The abovementioned site speculates that Steele wouldn’t give the producers permission to use her name and or likeness in the film, so they had to come up with a forged proxy.
