ABC Family orders series based on the life of Nicki Minaj

A scripted comedy series based on the life of Nicki Minaj is officially in the works at ABC Family.

The network has given a series commitment to the single-camera, half-hour project about Minaj’s life growing up in Queens with her vibrant family after immigrating from Trinidad — as well as her personal and musical evolution that led to her eventual rise to stardom.

Minaj will appear in the show and will exec produce with Kate Angelo, Aaron Kaplan, Stella Bulochnikov and Brian Sher, and Gee Roberson. Angelo also wrote the pilot and will pen the series.

“This is one of the more unique adventures I’ve ever embarked on,” said the Grammy nominee. “I couldn’t be more proud and excited to team up with an amazing group of people to give the world something really special.”
