Alan Rickman, the versatile and acclaimed British actor who gained fame with the role of Hans Gruber in “Die Hard” (1988), has passed away aged 69.

The actor had been battling cancer.

The actor, an Emmy, SAG, Golden Globe and BAFTA winner, was known for such performances as that of Snape in the “Harry Potter” film series, the Sheriff of Nottingham in “Robin Hood : Prince of Thieves” and Jamie in musical rom-com “Truly, Madly, Deeply”.

The thesp, who got his break in The BBC mini-series “The Barchester Chronicles”, was also known for his turns in “Love, Actually”, “Michael Collins”, “Sense and Sensibility”, “Dogma”, “Galaxy Quest”, “Sweeney Todd”, and “Judas Kiss”.

In more recent years, Rickman starred in “Gambit”, “A Little Chaos”, “Eye in the Sky” and “CBGB”.

Our thoughts go out to his family, friends and many, many fans -of which I was a big one.
