Amazon wants to resurrect Poltergeist franchise

Remember when Joe and Anthony Russo were attached to develop a relaunch?

MGM

Earlier today we reported that Amazon Studios, who now host MGM’s library, have been sifting their through newly owned goldmine of past classics identifying which past films they can remake, spin-off or sequelize.

Poltergeist, while not an immediate priority, is in an I.P they’re looking at doing something with – either for film or television.

There hasn’t been news on anything Poltergeist related in a few years but at one stage Marvel darlings Joe & Anthony Russo were said to have been handed the keys to the MGM vaults, consequently selecting a few choice titles from the shelves to redo – and one they chose was Poltergeist.

Produced by Steven Spielberg and directed by Tobe Hooper, the timeless 1982 spookshow tells of a family whose suburban home is haunted by evil forces must come together to rescue their youngest daughter after the apparitions take her captive.
