Andy Garcia to star in Father of the Bride remake

Andy Garcia

Whaddyaknow? I like the sound of this new “Father of the Bride” reboot that Warner Bros is putting together.

So, we’d heard previously that the new film will be a redo of the old Spencer Tracey and Steve Martin movies, respectively, and featured a Latino patriarch struggling to cope with his little girl growing up, getting married, and leaving the family home.

As opposed to the 1991 take, which was chunky parts slapstick, director Gaz Alazraki’s version is said to be more of a romantic comedy.

As we all know, it’s all comes down to who plays the ‘father’ in these movies — and fortunately, WB has had the smarts to court Andy Garcia for the role.

“Father of the Bride” (1991)

Garcia –  recently seen in “The Mule”, “Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar” and Universal’s “Mamma Mia!” sequel – says he’s stoked to be heading up the Cuban-American family of the remake.

“I’m very excited to join The Father of the Bride, a beloved film that has brought so much joy to so many over the years and to represent my Cuban culture and heritage in this story,” the versatile thesp, whose range of great performances can be seen in everything from “The Godfather Part III” to “When A Man Loves a Woman”, said in a statement. “I commend Warner Bros. for their foresight and celebrate this opportunity they have created.”
