Another Bourne spin-off movie in the works?

The previous film in the series was ‘Jason Bourne’, with Matt Damon returning in the title role

Universal

A second spin-off of Universal’s money-spinning Bourne series, based on the novels by Robert Ludlum, is reportedly in the works with David Leitch (Deadpool, Bullet Train) directing for the Burbank-based shingle.

Further, according to Giant Freakin Robot, Stranger Things breakout Joseph Quinn is being eyed for the lead role. Like The Bourne Legacy, which introduced us to a new character played by Jeremy Renner, and not ‘Bourne’ himself (played by Matt Damon in the previous instalments, and the most recent, Jason Bourne), Quinn will play a new character caught up in the shady spy program.

Says the outlet, the film will fix on “a new intelligence team and a younger male character (Joseph Quinn’s role) at the center of the story. So along with Quinn playing someone other than Matt Damon’s Jason Bourne, the film will seemingly deal with an organization other than the fictional CIA black-ops program Treadstone.”

As opposed to Legacy, there’s a chance this one won’t be set in the same universe as the Damon or Renner films, since it’s considered a remake- or restart, if you will – of the films, which kicked off with 2001’s The Bourne Identity.

Drew Pearce (Hotel Artemis) is writing the script.
