Being that they’ll only have very brief cameos in the film, I’ve been wondering whether Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger would appear in the trailer for Sylvester Stallone’s “The Expendablesâ€.
I initially assumed the powers-that-be would want to have canon-armed action heroes appear in the preview, as it would definitely help sell a few more tickets, but then I thought, ya know what? It’d be a bit misleading having them pop up in the trailer, wouldn’t it? – audiences would be fooled into thinking Schwarzenegger and Willis have big parts in the film (when they only appear briefly, in a scene at the beginning of the film). Wouldn’t really be right.
And then my I realized my reasoning for the big guns not-doing-it was negated – this is Hollywood we’re talking about. Nobody cares about what’s right. What’s going to mislead. Or what’s going to trick an audience into seeing a movie. It’s a money game – my word we’ll be seeing Arnie and Bruce in the trailer!
The Unit Publicist for “The Expendables†confirmed those assumptions that we’ll see a glimpse of John’s McClane and Matrix in the film. ‘’When I saw Sly & Arnold just before Christmas, Sly mentioned he wanted to use a quick flash of Arnold & Bruce in the trailer.â€
A photo of Stallone, Willis and Schwarzenegger – either working on the film, or in a scene from the film – will be available online shortly.
