“The reality now is there really isn’t a bad week to open a movie”, that’s what WB’s President of Domestic Distribution Dan Fellman told EW when asked why he moved “Batman vs. Superman : Dawn of Justice” from Summer 2016 to March 25, 2016.
According to Fellman, the core reason behind bringing the DC superhero flick forward was because of the crowded Summer movie season.
“If you look at the summer box office this year, you can see that there were so many movies, one after the other. You can start with Spider-Man, two weeks later Godzilla, and then Maleficent, and then Edge of Tomorrow, and then Jump Street and Transformers. And the one thing they all had in common, not one of them did over $250 million. We’ll be the first one up [in 2016], which is very important, and we’ll have six weeks before Captain America comes in.”
Fellman also suggested we won’t have long to wait until “Justice League”, hinting that it’s going to take up residency on one of the newely outed WB superhero dates recently released.
Meanwhile, a discussion about Aquaman’s appeal – or lack of – on a Detroit radio station this week spurred “Batman v Superman” director Zack Snyder to call up and defend the swimming superman. By doing so, Snyder’s also confirmed the involvement of the character in his film.
”The cool thing with Aquaman is he has his trident”, Snyder told CBS Detroit. “You have to realize that could cut the flesh of Superman if they came in contact. That’s a thing that’s in the canon. He’s super strong because, of course, he can exist at these super deep depths.”
