Battlestar Witchbladia?

Michael Rymer (“Queen of the Damned”, TVs “Battlestar Galactica”) will direct the upcoming “Witchblade” flick, according to Variety.

Though Rymer’s film adpatation of Anne Rice’s vampire novel “Damned” was about as fun as having your wife yank out your nose hairs, the Aussie filmmaker has done a hell of a job on “Battlestar Galactica”, and will hopefully be able to implement what he’s learnt over on the Sci-Fi series, in terms of how to tell a good story and structure action, for the movie.

You’ll recall that “Witchblade”, based on a comic of the same name, was previously a TV series – starring uber-hottie Yancy Butler. Butler will not be involved in this flick.

The film, which involves a jewel-encrusted gauntlet that bestows extraordinary powers upon the possessor, one chosen female from each generation, is a co-production of Platinum Studios, Top Cow Prods. and Arclight Films.

Meantime, Rymer’s busy working on the first of what’s planned to be a series of “Battlestar Galactica” telemovies.

Word is, the first film will largely fix on new characters (is a second spin-off on the way?) .
