Boreanaz reunites with Crow : Wicked Prayer producer for Officer Down

I like David Boreanaz. I’m actually surprised he’s not a big-time movie star. He’s a very charming, likeable screen presence. But then maybe, like Tom Selleck and Tim Allen, he’s one of those cats that people would simply rather watch on a 42 inch.

Boreanaz, star of “Bones” (and before that “Buffy” and “Angel”), is out to give the bigscreen another shot. The actor is starring in an indy called “Officer Down” for tyro filmmaker Brian A.Miller. Not a bad cast surrounding the actor either – Stephen Dorff, Dominic Purcell, Stephen Lang, James Woods and AnnaLynne McCord – which might just see this one, unlike most of the actor’s previous film credits, does get a theatrical (but then these days not even an A-list cast can guarantee a theatrical).

Deadline says of the film :

When a doctor and security guard dream at night, their dreams consist of what the other person did during the day. They meet when the security guard murders his wife, is then hit by a car and brought into the doctor’s emergency room. Boreanaz will play a humorless and ambitious rival detective to another cop played by Dorff.

Jeff Most, who worked with Boreanaz on “The Crow : Wicked Prayer” all those years ago, is producing. The film will shoot in the Summer, when Boreanaz is on his break from “Bones”.

I know that Boreanaz has been trying to snag a big blockbuster superhero movie for years – he’s not fussy (he’s tested for both Superman as well as Ben Grimm in “The Fantastic Four”) – but considering his age, these quality indy thrillers might be his best bet now.

Side Note : There’s now a nice link between vampire series’ “Buffy” and “Blade” thanks to the anointment of Boreanaz and Dorff to the same project.
