Box Office Report : April 2-4

“Clash of the Titans” remake dominated the box office this weekend, grossing $61.2M. The film was converted from 2D to 3D. Due to that the film received a lot of bad press but it still delivered a good opening weekend. Including the Thursday night showings, the film grossed a total of $63.9M. The $125M budget film should see a heavy drop next week but could end up with around $150M. Tyler Perry proves he is an unstoppable force releasing “Why Did I Get Married Too? The film grossed $29.3M, which was 37% higher than the first “Married” opened with $21.4M. The $20M budget film is already a big success with a long future ahead.

“How to Train Your Dragon” dropped only 33.7% in week two, grossing $29.0M. “Dragon’s” total sits just below the century mark with $92.2M. The pricey $165M budget film could see a final gross of $180M. Look for Dreamworks to make this into a franchise very soon. Miley Cyrus’ “The Last Song” was released this week grossing $16M over three days and $25.4M over five days. The film is Miley’s first role not as Hannah Montana on the big screen and debuted to about half the gross of “Hannah Montana: The Movie” and “Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert”. “Alice in Wonderland” crossed the $300M dollar mark this weekend grossing $8.2M. A final gross of $325M should be in the cards for the Disney picture.

“Hot Tub Time Machine” grossed $8.1M, only dropping 42.4% in week two. The MGM comedy could reach $45-50M, which is ok but not great for the $36M budgeted film. “The Bounty Hunter” grossed $6.1M bringing its total to $48.9M. With a budget of $40M, the film should see decent gross of about $65M.

“Diary of a Wimpy Kid” grossed $5.3M in week three, bringing its total to $46M. “She Out of My League” grossed $1.5M bringing its total to only $28.7M. “Shutter Island” finally hit number ten after a fantastic run of seven weeks in the top ten, grossing $1.49M. The 80M film has grossed $123.4M.

Next week the only wide film being released in “Date Movie” with Steve Carell and Tiny Fey.
