Bryan Brown returns to Australian Film

Joining Jackman and Kidman in “Australia”

Legendary Aussie actor Bryan ‘What’s this great idea we’re here to piss on?’ Brown (“Breaker Morant, “FX”, “The Shiralee”) will support Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman in the local blockbuster, “Australia”.

I tell ya, I’m really glad to see Bryan Brown returning to the big screen. The guy has had a rough few years – heck, I gotta say it, shitty decade. He’s such a nice bloke, and darn talented to boot, so really isn’t deserving of the crumby treatment he has been served up by studios and studios over the years. One flop – that’d be “Blame it on the Bellboy” in the early 90s – and he was thrown to the curb like a finished cigarette.

The U.S basically took him on quick – he skyrocketed over there with “F/X” – and just as quickly turfed him, and besides a couple of asymmetrical movie roles – the best one of late probably being “Dirty Deeds” – he’s hardly been used back home either. Brown – who recently produced the TV series “Too Twisted” – hasn’t been in a movie for three years, and even then it was a shoddy supporting role in the Ben Stiller dud “Along Came Polly”. Sheesh.

Anyway….

No idea who Brown is playing in the film, but just glad Bazz Luhrmann has had the smarts to come and offer Brown a role – and Jack Thompson and David Wenham a role, for that matter.
