Campbell wants Rocketeer sequel

But does anyone at Disney?

It only made about two bucks at the box office, but for what it’s worth, Disney’s “The Rocketeer” was a fun little film. Not only was it loyal to the original pulp comic it was based on but the production values were terrific and star Billy Campbell (whose since gone on to star in films like “Enough” and “Gods & Generals”and the TV series’ “Once and Again” and “The 4400”) fit the role of Cliff Secord like a glove.

Originally – this is pre-release of the first film – Disney was keen to do a whole series of “Rocketeer” films. These days, the only guy that wants to see a sequel made is star Campbell (his co-star and one time fiancée Jennifer Connelly probably isn’t as keen).

“I was talking to [writer] Dave Stevens just the night before last. We always talked about having a sequel,” Campbell tells MTV. “[Unfortunately] the movie didn’t make as much money as Disney had hoped and that coupled with the acrimonious relationship that the director [Joe Johnston] and the studio had contributed to them not even considering it.”

If Disney did greenlight it, Campbell would be there in a “New York Minute”, he says.

“I would dig that. I’ve always wished for a sequel to ‘The Rocketeer,’” Campbell said. “I thought that would have been really neat. It could have been great.”
