Casting: Blade Runner 2, The Dark Tower, Transformers 5, Vaughn, Phoenix

Ana de Armas will join Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Robin Wright and Dave Bautista in the upcoming “Blade Runner” sequel.

De Armas’ role is said to be a lead in the film which is directed byDenis Villeneuve.

The film is set several decades after the 1982 original, with Harrison Ford reprising his iconic role as Rick Deckard. The film is written by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green, and succeeds the initial story by Fancher and David Peoples based on Philip K. Dick’s novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. Story details have not been revealed.

“Blade Runner 2” will open on October 6, 2017.

 

 

Fran Kranz will join Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey in the adaptation of Stephen King’s fantasy series “The Dark Tower”.

The film follows “a wandering knight (Elba) who is the last hope of the fallen land of Mid-World. He is charged with finding the Dark Tower while battling his nemesis the Man in Black (McConaughey)” (via THR).

Kranz will play Pimli, “the right-hand man of the Man in Black.”

Abbey Lee, Tom Taylor are also in the cast with Nikolaj Arcel directing the movie.

“The Dark Tower” is set to bow on February 17, 2017.

 

 

Comedian Jerrod Carmichael is in talks to join Mark Wahlberg in Paramount’s “Transformers 5″, reports TheWrap.

Michael Bay is returning to direct the sequel which also has Isabela Moner in talks for a role.

Paramount will release the film on June 23, 2017, with production slated to start this summer in Detroit.

 

 

Vince Vaughn is set to star in action thriller “Brawl in Cell Block 99”.

From writer/director S. Craig Zahler, the film centers on “a former boxer (Vaughn) whose life is crumbling: He loses his job as an auto mechanic and his troubled marriage is about to expire. At this crossroads in his life, he feels that he has no better option than to work for an old buddy as a drug courier. This vocation improves his situation until the day he finds himself in a gunfight between a group of police officers and his own ruthless allies. When the smoke clears, the man finds himself in prison in a no-win situation as his enemies force him to commit acts of violence that turn the place into a savage battleground” (via THR).

Production will likely begin at the end of the summer.

 

 

Joaquin Phoenix is being eyed to play Jesus Christ in Garth Davis’ “Mary Magdalene”, though Deadline notes “a deal is still some way off being done, with scheduling believed to be one concern”.

Rooney Mara is attached to play the title role. Magdalene was said to have been a devoted follower of Jesus Christ who witnessed both his crucifixion and resurrection.

Helen Edmundson and Philippa Goslett penned the screenplay. Production is set to begin this summer for an anticipated release in 2017.
