Casting: Moore & Watanabe & Bichir, Life of the Party, American Assassin, Biel, Untogether, The 10th Date

Julianne Moore, Ken Watanabe and Demián Bichir are set to star in the upcoming “Bel Canto”.

Paul Weitz will direct the project and has adapted the screenplay with Anthony Weintraub from Ann Patchett’s international best-seller.

Bel Canto follows Roxane Coss (Moore), a famous American soprano who travels to a military dictatorship in South America to give a private concert at the birthday party of rich Japanese industrialist Katsumi Hosokawa (Watanabe). Just as a handsome gathering convenes the house is taken over by guerrillas, led by General Benjamin (Bichir) demanding the release of their imprisoned comrades. A month long standoff ensues in which hostages and captors must overcome their differences and find their shared humanity in the face of impending disaster.

 

 

Luke Benward is the latest addition to the cast of New Line’s comedy “Life of the Party”.

Melissa McCarthy, Matt Walsh, Gillian Jacobs, Jackie Weaver, Debby Ryan and Maya Rudolph star in the movie which has a screenplay by McCarthy and Ben Falcone. Falcone will also direct.

“Life of the Party” will open on May 11, 2018.

 

 

Sanaa Lathan will play CIA Deputy director Irene Kennedy in “American Assassin”, CBS Films and Lionsgate’s adaptation Vince Flynn’s thriller novel series, reports Deadline.

Michael Cuesta is directing with Dylan O’Brien (who plays CIA black ops agent Mitch Rapp), Michael Keaton and Taylor Kitsch starring.

“American Assassin” follows CIA black ops recruit Mitch Rapp (O’Brien) and Cold War veteran Stan Hurley (Keaton) as they’re enlisted by CIA Deputy Director Irene Kennedy to investigate a wave of apparently random attacks on both military and civilian targets. Kitsch will play a mysterious operative intent on starting a World War in the Middle East.

Stephen Schiff wrote the script and Lorenzo di Bonaventura is producing with Nick Wechsler.

 

 

Jessica Biel will star in and exece produce crime thriller “The Sinner”, which the USA Network has picked up to pilot.

Derek Simonds wrote and created the pilot based on Petra Hammesfahr’s book of the same name. Antonio Campos will direct.

According to Variety, “The Sinner” is an hourlong drama that follows a young mother who is overcome by an inexplicable fit of rage and commits a startling and very public act of violence — and to her horror has no idea why. The event launches a crime thriller whose driving force is not the who or the what, but the why. A rogue investigator finds himself obsessed with uncovering the woman’s buried motive, and together they travel a harrowing journey into the depths of her psyche and the violent secrets hidden in her past.

 

 

Jamie Dornan, Ben Mendelsohn, and sisters Jemima Kirke and Lola Kirke are set to star in indie dramedy “Untogether”.

According to THR, “Untogether” follows the affair between Andrea (Jemima Kirke), a former teen prodigy turned heroin addict who is trying to be a writer now that she’s sober, and Nick (Dornan), a writer who’s found success with his memoir of war-time bravery, which sees him showered in wealth and women. Meanwhile, Andrea’s little sister, Tara (Lola Kirke), finds her solid relationship with her older boyfriend, Martin (Mendelsohn), shaken when she is drawn to a charismatic rabbi with an even larger age gap.

Author Emma Forrest will make her feature directorial debut based on her own script. Production will begin on October 17.

 

 

Lifetime has greenlit TV movie “The 10th Date”, starring Kelly Rowland, Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman, Cat Deeley, Keri Hilson, Kellee Stewart, Brandon T. Jackson and Meagan Good.

According to Variety, the two-hour romantic comedy follows four friends at different life stages in their search for love: Gabby (Good), Nell (Stewart), Billie (Hilson) and Margot (Rowland) balance their dating life alongside their career ambitions at an upscale website in Los Angeles, under the watchful eye of their editor, Maureen (Deeley). Inspired by the site’s relationship advice column to find “the one,” Gabby and Nell embark on their own journeys towards the elusive “10th date,” the Holy Grail in the dating world when women believe men are finally committed. As the ladies navigate the ups and downs of modern dating, romance, exes and friendships, they learn what they really want out of life and love. Jackson stars as Dante, a creative director at the site, and Bowyer-Chapman is Freddy, Nell’s bisexual boyfriend.

 “The 10th Date” will premiere in 2017.
