Topher Grace (“American Ultra”) is joining Brad Pitt in the black comedy “War Machine”. The war-on-terror themed project is based on Michael Hastings’ best-selling nonfiction book ‘The Operators: The Wild And Terrifying Inside Story Of America’s War In Afghanistan’ and satirizes the handling of that war, and the people running it”. Pitt, next in “On the Sea”, stars as a “four-star rock star U.S. general patterned after Gen. Stanley McChrystal, and Grace has been set to play his civilian press adviser.” Aussie David Michod (“Animal Kingdom”) wrote and directed the movie. (Deadline)

Reese Witherspoon will star in and produce “Cold” for Lionsgate. The supernatural thriller is based on a pitch by “Deja Vu” screenwriter Bill Marsilii. No word on what the film is about. (Variety)

Angela Sarafyn (“Westworld”) will play Oscar Isaac’s wife in “The Promise”, Terry George’s epic love-story about the Armenian Genocide of 1915. Isaac stars alongside Christian Bale and Charlotte Le Bon, the latter of whom serves as the center of a love triangle. (The Wrap)

Patrick Duffy and Anne Archer are onboard Will Wallace’s directorial debut “Trafficked”. Now in production in Malibu, California the movie “is based on Harvard professor and writer Siddharth Kara’s best-selling book, “Sex Trafficking: Inside the Business of Modern Slavery.” Kara is considered one of the world’s foremost experts on human trafficking and contemporary slavery.” Kelly Washington, Ashley Judd, Jessica Obilom and Efren Ramirez are also onboard.
