The “I Love You Beth Cooper”, “Harry Potter” and “Percy Jackson” helmet is leaving behind the young adult fare for a while, opting to write, produce and direct an adaptation of John Grisham’s baseball novel “Calico Joe”.
Unlike most of Grisham’s stories, “Joe” isn’t a legal eagle flick; book tells of a 21 year old minor leaguer is chosen to fill in for a Cubs player.
Deadline, who broke the news, says the book – and film – is a story of fathers and sons, forgiveness and redemption, so definitely no “Runaway Jury”.
Just as “Joe” was a refreshing change for author Grisham, it’s a nice change for Columbus.
